Switzerland has agreed to represent the diplomatic interests of the Russian Federation in Georgia, the Russian Foreign Ministry said. Russia shut down its embassy and consulate in Tbilisi on September 3 after Georgia formally notified Moscow of its decision to cut diplomatic ties with Russia.
“In order to minimize the negative consequences of this demarche by Tbilisi, the Russian Foreign Ministry, taking into account the world practice, has found a legally correct solution, which will allow us to maintain the necessary inter-state contacts in the interests of Russian and Georgian citizens,” the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.  It also said that a section of Russia’s interests would be opened at the Swiss embassy in Tbilisi.
